Does JCI mean Korean hospital accreditation?
JCI is a separate international accreditation body; its record must be checked independently of Korean legal procedures.
A brochure can display several credentials together. Read the issuing body and the scope of each instead of treating every badge as a single government approval.

Who issues JCI accreditation?
Joint Commission International describes itself as an independent, not-for-profit organization.
The issuing body’s own description identifies the organization behind the mark. That is the starting point for checking an international claim. A reference to JCI on a Korean hospital brochure should retain the JCI name rather than being rewritten as a Korean ministry’s accreditation decision.
Korean domestic healthcare accreditation has a different statutory authority and delegated operator: the Minister of Health and Welfare and KOIHA. The two source routes answer questions about their own schemes. Read the actual issuer on the certificate before selecting the route to verify it.
The name of an international issuer identifies who made the assessment; it is not an endorsement of every interpretation made by an institution’s brochure. Compare the actual program record before repeating a broader claim.
Why does the program matter in JCI accreditation?
The international directory separates accreditation programs and certifications, so the named program limits the claim.
The directory presents program choices rather than a single undifferentiated badge field. The reader should match the program named in the source to the wording used by the institution. A certification entry that refers to a defined clinical area should retain that area instead of being broadened into an unsupported claim about every service.
This is a scope comparison, not a ranking between programs. Keep the original program wording, the organization and the decision together. When a brochure omits the program, that omission is a question to resolve with the source; it is not a reason to select whichever program seems closest to the treatment being considered.
A program name can be retained verbatim while the surrounding explanation is translated. This avoids making an unofficial translation sound like an additional credential and keeps the original term available for a source search.

| Program or certification | What scope is named? |
| Organization and listed facilities | Which entity and locations are covered? |
| Decision and effective date | What decision and date are actually shown? |
Which location is covered by a JCI accreditation entry?
Match the organization and listed facilities to the location in the institution’s claim.
An organization may have more than one location or use related names. The directory’s organization and facility information should be read together wherever facilities are listed. A shared brand name cannot by itself establish that a separate address is included in the same accreditation record.
Keep the institution’s full name and the source wording intact while comparing locations. Translating or shortening a name for convenience can remove the detail that distinguishes branches. If the location cannot be matched, ask the issuing body about the particular facility rather than extending a verified record to an unverified location.
Where facilities are not clearly identified, record that limitation. The absence of a facility field in the view being read does not authorize extending the organization’s entry to every address using its brand.
Is the effective date the expiry of JCI accreditation?
Read the field as labelled; an effective-date entry does not supply an unstated expiry date.
The international directory displays a decision and effective date. Those fields should be recorded with their labels. Replacing the effective date with an assumed end date changes what the original source supplies and can hide the distinction between a decision’s starting point and a stated certificate period.
No universal current JCI duration is applied in this guide’s date tool. Program and decision details should be checked with the international issuing body. If a certificate explicitly states an end date, a date comparison can use that entered value while remaining a comparison of dates rather than a determination of the program’s current legal or institutional effect.
The date on which a record was checked supplies an observation time. It does not replace the decision’s effective date or create an expiry. Keep those labels so that an older screenshot can be understood without claiming it remains current.
Does JCI accreditation establish Korean opening permission or accreditation?
Korean opening procedures and domestic accreditation have their own provisions and records.
Article 33 of the Medical Service Act governs opening notification and permission. Articles 58 onward govern domestic healthcare accreditation, including grades and terms. The presence of an international accreditation record does not answer whether those particular Korean procedures have been completed for the institution and location in question.
A domestic accreditation record also should not be represented as a JCI record unless the international source establishes it. Each mark retains its issuer and assessment scope in both directions. This lets readers identify which source is needed for an unresolved question instead of treating a collection of logos as interchangeable evidence.
A Korean accreditation grade and an international decision may use different labels. Preserve each label rather than translating them into a single favourable or unfavourable score that neither source published.
| Procedure | Official route |

| JCI international program | JCI international organization directory |
| Domestic accreditation | KOIHA accreditation status |
| Foreign-patient registration or KAHF | MedicalKorea information system |
Does JCI accreditation answer foreign-patient registration questions?
Foreign-patient registration and KAHF belong to the Korean recruitment legislation and their own official records.
Recruitment registration is with the competent provincial or metropolitan authority and includes the statutory requirements for the relevant entity. KAHF assesses eligible registered medical institutions’ foreign-patient and patient-safety systems. Neither registration nor KAHF should be filled in merely because the institution displays an international credential.
The date relationship is also specific to the Korean scheme. Article 14(5) concerns deemed registration renewal after the accreditation awards governed by that article. It should not be extended to an unrelated international award by analogy. Use the actual registration document and the relevant Korean assessment result to read that rule.
The specialist and liability-cover conditions in Korean recruitment registration concern that statutory procedure. An international program description should not be used to infer that the institution’s specific Korean registration conditions were checked.
How should a JCI accreditation claim be checked at the source?
Use the international directory’s South Korea and program filters, then compare the organization, facility and decision.
The official international directory is distinct from the United States domestic organization search linked on the same site. Choose the international route for a Korean institution. If the results are not available in the current browser view, the failed view leaves the question unresolved rather than establishing the absence of an award.
Retain the checking date and the exact program and decision wording you can actually read. A historical portal may reproduce an earlier JCI label without establishing current status. The issuing body’s matched record is the appropriate source for the current claim, and uncertainty about a specific facility remains a question for that body.
Search descriptions and a matched institutional result are different materials. A description showing the available filters tells the reader how to search; the actual organization and facility decision must still be read before assigning a status to an institution.
