How long are hospital accreditation badges valid?
A stated certificate period comes first; a standard term or calendar calculation alone does not establish current effect.
Identify the scheme and grade before choosing a duration rule. An entered date and an official certificate date have different evidential roles.

Which accreditation validity rule applies to a badge?
Domestic accreditation and KAHF each use 4-year and 1-year terms, while registration has its own rules.
A duration is meaningful only after the scheme and grade are known. The Medical Service Act defines the domestic accreditation grades, while Article 14 of the foreign-patient legislation governs KAHF terms. A brochure that shows a mark without its scheme or grade leaves the relevant duration rule unidentified.
Ordinary recruitment registration has a three-year term under Article 6, subject to its renewal provisions and the relationship with KAHF awards. Keep it separate from a medical-institution accreditation period even if both dates appear on the same brochure. The number of years belongs to a particular rule and document.
The scheme’s authority and the document title identify which statute is relevant. A common word such as accredited is insufficient if the source could refer to domestic accreditation, KAHF or an international program with a different record.
| Scheme | Ordinary award | Conditional award |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic accreditation | 4 years | 1 year |
| KAHF | 4 years | 1 year |
| Recruitment registration | 3 years; read renewal rules | Not a registration grade; read KAHF-linked renewal under Article 14(5) |
Why do stated dates take priority in accreditation validity checks?
The stated period identifies the particular award, while the general rule only describes the scheme’s term.
Read the certificate start and end fields with the institution name, type and location. This attaches the period to the award that concerns the institution being considered. A typed date without those identity details is a calculation input and cannot establish that a certificate was actually issued for the same institution.
Publication and upload dates should retain their labels. A notice can be published after an award date, and a portal can update its own metadata without supplying a new institutional certificate. Choosing whichever date appears most recent would replace the original event with a different one.
A later award for the same institution needs its own period, rather than extending the first certificate indefinitely. Keep the award identifier and grade with each dated record so that the source can distinguish them.
What can a calendar calculation show about accreditation validity?
It can illustrate an interval from entered values, but it does not confirm a certificate or later status changes.
The date tool offers an expressly labelled illustration for domestic accreditation and KAHF when only a starting date is provided. Its convention adds the selected number of calendar years and subtracts one day. That arithmetic convention is displayed so the reader can see how the reference date was produced.
An explicit end date entered from a document takes priority over that illustration. A valid comparison can also identify whether the comparison date falls before, on or after the entered end date. These outputs describe the relationship between dates; they should not be renamed accredited, unaccredited or legally operating.
Leap dates illustrate why the arithmetic must be visible. The tool rejects impossible dates instead of allowing a calendar rollover to disguise an invalid input. A valid calculation still remains a reference interval, not a source-issued certificate.
How does conditional accreditation validity differ?
The one-year term must be read with the required reassessment and any subsequent result.
For domestic conditional accreditation, Article 58-3 requires reaccreditation within the term, and KOIHA explains the opportunity for correction and another survey. A statement that an institution is applying or preparing does not supply the resulting grade. The final outcome needs its own record.
For KAHF, Article 14(4) explicitly states the loss of effect if reaccreditation is not obtained through the evaluation procedure within the conditional period. Match the scheme before applying that wording. The two one-year terms should retain their separate legal references rather than being reduced to a universal badge rule.
The conditional label is part of the input. A start date without a grade cannot choose between the one-year and four-year rule. Confirm the grade on the certificate before interpreting even an illustrative interval.
Why is registration excluded from automatic accreditation validity calculations?
KAHF awards can trigger deemed renewal of registration, so the original registration date alone is insufficient.
Article 14(5) treats accreditation, conditional accreditation and reaccreditation award dates as recruitment-registration renewal dates. The same paragraph limits the registration period to the accreditation term, excluding conditional accreditation from that ceiling. Both sentences form part of the rule the reader must retain.
For that reason the tool asks for the stated registration end date rather than computing an institution’s actual expiry from a starting date. A registration record after the relevant award can resolve the applicable dates. The lack of such a record is a missing answer, not a reason to select a longer or shorter duration by assumption.
The ordinary renewal route also distinguishes an application from the resulting record. A submitted renewal date does not automatically supply the new end date. Use the returned document to resolve that specific period.
Can accreditation validity change before a stated end date?
The Medical Service Act provides for follow-up checks, cancellation, mark suspension and corrective action.
A certificate period is one part of current-status checking. Article 58-10 addresses specified events such as important changes to the basis of accreditation and failure to meet the standards. If an official decision changes the award, arithmetic using the earlier certificate cannot show that event.
Read subsequent notices and results for the same institution and award. A name change, different location or different institution type requires careful identity comparison before connecting the documents. Keeping the earlier period and later decision separately avoids silently extending an old award to a different entity.
A comparison date before the entered end means only that date ordering. It does not show whether the certificate was suspended or superseded. The tool deliberately avoids translating date order into an institutional status label.
How are international dates handled in accreditation validity checks?
Use the issuing body’s program, decision and stated dates; no general JCI term is assumed here.
JCI’s international directory displays an effective date with a decision and program. An effective-date field should remain an effective-date field; it does not by itself supply a missing expiry. Program-specific and current information needs to be read from the international issuing body.
For every scheme, retain the comparison date with the fields that were actually checked. There is no universal thirty-day recheck recommendation in the verified material used here. An unclear document should be clarified with the relevant issuer, using the institution and certificate details that identify the question.
An end date written on an international document can be entered as stated, without deriving it from an assumed term. Retain the program and field labels with that date so the comparison stays connected to the document actually read.
| Input or field | Output | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Stated end date | Date comparison | Current effect not determined |
| Domestic/KAHF start only | Labelled calendar illustration | Certificate period not verified |
| Registration or JCI start only | No calculated expiry | Use the relevant source record |
What else do people ask about accreditation validity?
Does accreditation validity always equal the tool’s date?
The stated certificate and later source record take priority over a calendar illustration.
What is the conditional term?
Domestic and KAHF conditional terms are 1 year under their respective provisions.
Can registration expiry be inferred from the first starting date?
KAHF deemed-renewal rules can affect the record; use stated dates.
Can an end date be entered without a starting date?
The tool can compare a valid stated end date with the comparison date.
Is a passed date a finding of illegality?
It describes the entered dates, not the institution’s legal status.
